Giving it all to God and Letting Our Fountains Flow Through Him

Proverbs 1:7

NIV- “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

The Message- “Start with God – the first step in learning is bowing down to God; only fools thumb their noses at such wisdom and learning.”

I see this verse as the foundation to all business activities.  As a 19 year old, I was introduced to something called the vertical alignment by my business mentors. For anyone not familiar with the vertical alignment, the top (most important and from which all fountains flow) is God. Next, you have the fountains: family and then your job or, if you are an entrepreneur, your business. Just like Psalm 87:7 says “All my fountains are in You”. Such a comforting feeling when we can confidently say all of our “fountains” are flowing from God, the ultimate source.

In my opinion, one of the biggest epidemics we see in the business world today is people walking around with their vertical alignments out of whack and so many of the problems we see in today’s business world would be solved if people got their vertical alignments in order.

How often do we see businesspeople compromise their relationships with God because their careers have surpassed God on the vertical alignment and become more important? At the same time, how many businesspeople do we see that compromise their family and home life for their job or business? I believe this is one of the reasons we have such a high divorce rate in the business world.

It’s my personal belief that if we get our vertical alignments in order, God is going to bless the business activities we participate in. Can you imagine if each morning we all started dedicating our businesses activities to God for the day? Even better, what if we started running all decisions that affect our businesses/jobs through the vertical alignment? Let’s choose today to give up everything we do in our “business fountain” to God and allow Him to work through it.

  1. Great thoughts ! You’ve given the entrepreneur/individual a very good vision;

    ” Without a vision we would perish”. The business model put forth in your blog has a personal note or ring to it. If we allow God to work in us and through us on a personal level as well as a business level great things can happen.
